Monica Ellis
Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), Supervised by Shirley Nedock LPC-S, In-person & Telehealth
My name is Monica, and I am a graduate student at the University of Texas San Antonio Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. I earned a BA in Psychology from Saint Edward’s University and a MA in School Psychology from Trinity University. For the past 15 years, I have been working as a School Psychologist in public schools. After realizing the best part of my job was counseling students, I decided to go back to school to pursue my master’s degree in counseling. I have experience with group and individual counseling and psychological assessment with children and adolescents. I have specialized training in counseling children and teens with ADHD, on the autism spectrum and with neurodevelopmental disabilities. I look forward to expanding my practice to include working with families, couples, and adults.
As the mother of two grown daughters, I have dealt with the challenges of raising children. As a widow, I have dealt with the pain and chaos of losing my husband.
I would describe my approach to counseling as client empathetic and practical rooted in client centered and CBT theories. I focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship to help people feel safe and secure. Change occurs when people feel accepted. We also want to leave sessions with practical tools we can use immediately. I like to use breathing techniques I have learned from yoga as well as DBT approaches to help regulate emotions. I look forward to walking with you on your healing journey.
